Die ganze Welt ist im Fußballfieber... Die ganze Welt? Nein, drei kleine Staaten widerstehen tapfer der Hysterie...
Ganz so schlimm ist es nicht: Nach einer aktuellen Umfrage für das litauische Nachrichtenmagazin "Veidas" interessieren sich 27% für die Fußball-WM, 53,6% "etwas" und nur 19% - "gar nicht". Also haben alle Reisenden die einmalige Gelegenheit, endlich mal Kommentare auf Litauisch, Lettisch oder Estnisch zu sehen. Ja, die Spiele laufen in genug Kneipen...
Oh! ich sollte dazu sagen, dass der WM-Sieger den Litauern zufolge "weißnicht" wird (14,8%), gefolgt von Spanien (auweia! 12,4%), Brazilien (11,4%), Argentinien (10%) und England (9% der Befragten). Da zeigt sich wahres Expertentum :-)

Nach unserem Umzug um die Ecke (von Bernardinu 10-10 zu Bernardinu 10-6) geht die Arbeit weiter. Noch immer warten die Fahrräder auf Ausleiher, jeden Wochentag finden unserer beliebt-bemerkenswerte Stadttour "Vilniusser Kontraste" (11 Uhr) statt. Auf  www.velo-city.lt gibt es außerdem die beliebtesten Routen zum Selbstradeln in und um Vilnius.
In der Mache sind regelmäßige (kostenlose) Touren "für die ganze Familie" (geplant: Donnerstag 18.30 Uhr, Dauer: 1 1/2 bis 2 Stunden) und bald können wir auch Fahrradreparatur anbieten - 1x die Woche soll es dazu auch kostenlose Selbsthilfeworkshops geben.
Aber was aus den Plänen geworden ist - das ist schon etwas für den nächsten Rundbrief.

• Erstes Stadtradverleihsystem in den Baltischen Staaten startet in Riga und Jurmala

 

Nach Diskussionen in Vilnius seit Ende 2009 wird das erste Selbstbedienungsfahrradverleih im Baltikum eröffnet – in Riga. Hier ein Ausschnitt aus der offiziellen Pressemitteilung:

 

“Die lettische nationale Fluggesellschaft „airBaltic” hat in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Stadtrat von Jurmala „BalticBike”, den ersten Selbstbedienungsfahrradverleih im Baltikum eröffnet.

Die Stände der „BalticBike” Fahrräder werden an 11 leicht erreichbaren Orten in Riga und Jurmala sein. Der Fahrradverleih ist ein weiterer Schritt der Vervollständigung und Erweiterung der Fahrradwege in Jurmala. Der Fahrradweg von Priedaine bis Majori ist schon fertig, und die früher gebauten Fahrradwege werden in Ordnung gehalten und erneuert. Eine sehr gute Fahrradstrecke sind die 32 Kilometer am Meer entlang, jedoch sollte man auf die Gäste am Strand achten.

Der Präsident der Gesellschaft „airBaltic”, Bertold Flick, meint dazu: „Jede anständige Stadt in Europa verfügt über einen Fahrradverleih. Nun werden auch die Gäste und Einwohner von Jurmala ein bequemes und schnelles Fortbewegungsmittel zur Verfügung haben. „airBaltic” lädt Touristen aus vielen Ländern nach Lettland ein, und deshalb müssen hier eine freundliche Atmosphäre und bequeme Transportmittel für die Touristen zur Verfügung stehen.”

Man kann die Fahrräder für eine Stunde und sogar einen Monat mieten, es ist an alles gedacht worden. „BalticBike” besitzt insgesamt 100 Fahrräder die auf 11 Stellen in Riga und Jurmala ab dem 30. 2010.07.11 to 2010.07.-24 Tour de LatEst

 Estonia and Latvia are two neighbouring states and there is a lot of common in the history, nature and people of two nations in the region of South Estonia and Northern Latvia. The region has a lot of beautiful natural sites, nice small towns, rich national culture, not too much factories or wide roads with crazy traffic. It a really nice region for travellers by bike. The best way to understand that is to come, to cycle and to see it yourself.

According to the goals of the project „ViSoEst by Bike“ a new bicycle route has been developed (route map http://www.vidzeme.com/eng.php ). The route named as Tour de LatEst has the length of 1296 km in total, half in Estonia, half in Latvia. The opening event of the new route will be on July 11th – 24th, 2010.
The Marathon will start on July 11th in Sigulda, easily accessible by train from Riga. The first 2,5 days the participants will cycle in Latvia (Sigulda – Ligatne – Cesis – Smiltene – Valka), then accross the border in Valga and cycle for 7 next days in Estonia (Valga-Viljandi-Elva-Elistvere-Alatskivi-Tartu-Otepää-Karula NP), last 5 days will be again in Latvia (Ape-Aluksne – Gulbene – Cesvaine – Madona – Ergli - Sigulda). The participants can participate at the full route, as well to cycle only a part of the route.

Latvian Bicycle information centre for the second year in a row is organising a pilgrimage – bicycle tour “Churches in the coasts of North Kurzeme” which will last from 31st July – 17th August 2010. The route will be Riga – Ventspils – Liepaja and during the trip we will travel just nearby the sea and also see many objects of culture, nature and history. Everybody welcome!
