Soccer desert Baltic States?
Well, still in enough cafes and bars you would have the possibility to watch the games with comments in the exotic languages Lithuanian, Latvian and Estoninan … Thus, a survey for the Lithuanian news magazine “Veidas” show, that 27 % of the Lithuanians show interest in the World cup, 54% some and only 19 % “not at all”. Sure, that's nothing compared to Basketball (in which only 7 % show no interest).
Okay and here the voting of the Lithuanian people: winner of the Fifa World Championship will be: “dontknow” (14,8%), followed by Spain (12,4%) Brasil (11.4), Argentina (10%) and England (9%). Wow. What kind on experts!

After our move around the corner (from Bernardinu 10-10 to Bernardinu 10-6) our work goes ahead. Bicycles are waiting to be rented and each workday at 11.00 there is the city tour by bicycle “All sides of Vilnius” to happen.
You may find us opposite to the famous Gothic St. Ann's church – we now shared office with an artists' shop (well, that's long story). The bicycles wait for you in front of the door (but more of them are in our bicycle cellar).
Hope you won't miss us.
The newest plans: free bicycle tours “for the whole family” (schedulled for Thursday. 6.30 p.m., 1 ½ hours) and soon we will offer as well bicycle repair services … Once a week I want to organise free do-it-yourself repair workshops.
How these plans got realised – that already something for the next newsletter...

AirBaltic launches the first self-service bike rental in the Baltic States
Latvian national airline airBaltic in Jurmala launches BalticBike – the first self-service bike rental in the Baltic States.
Bertolt Flick, airBaltic President and CEO: „Every decent European city has bike rental stands. Now residents and guests of Jurmala will also have a chance to use rental bikes for journeys around the city.”
BalticBike has bicycles for those, who want to see the city leisurely, as well as those, who have to arrange their business activities but prefer fast and environmentally friendly transportation, avoiding traffic jams. BalticBike bicycle fleet includes 100 bicycles. When the project is complete, they will be located in 11 easy-to-access stands in Riga and Jurmala. Renting of a BalticBike bicycle is easy and convenient: one has to register online at www.balticbike.lv or make a call to +371 67788333. Pick up the bike in one stand, use it as long as you wish and then return it to any BalticBike stand. The rental prices will be charged for every ongoing hour and the payment shall be made with a credit card. Further information: www.balticbike.lv.

2010.07.11 to 2010.07.-24 Tour de LatEst
Estonia and Latvia are two neighbouring states and there is a lot of common in the history, nature and people of two nations in the region of South Estonia and Northern Latvia. The region has a lot of beautiful natural sites, nice small towns, rich national culture, not too much factories or wide roads with crazy traffic. It a really nice region for travellers by bike. The best way to understand that is to come, to cycle and to see it yourself.
According to the goals of the project „ViSoEst by Bike“ a new bicycle route has been developed (route map http://www.vidzeme.com/eng.php ). The route named as Tour de LatEst has the length of 1296 km in total, half in Estonia, half in Latvia. The opening event of the new route will be on July 11th – 24th, 2010.
The Marathon will start on July 11th in Sigulda, easily accessible by train from Riga. The first 2,5 days the participants will cycle in Latvia (Sigulda – Ligatne – Cesis – Smiltene – Valka), then accross the border in Valga and cycle for 7 next days in Estonia (Valga-Viljandi-Elva-Elistvere-Alatskivi-Tartu-Otepää-Karula NP), last 5 days will be again in Latvia (Ape-Aluksne – Gulbene – Cesvaine – Madona – Ergli - Sigulda). The participants can participate at the full route, as well to cycle only a part of the route.

Latvian Bicycle information centre for the second year in a row is organising a pilgrimage – bicycle tour “Churches in the coasts of North Kurzeme” which will last from 31st July – 17th August 2010. The route will be Riga – Ventspils – Liepaja and during the trip we will travel just nearby the sea and also see many objects of culture, nature and history. Everybody welcome!
